An Evening of Felting

Thank you for all the lovely comments on my last post, especially the ones about my lovely girl in her prom dress and our gorgeous grandson.

It's been a worrying week. Regular readers will perhaps remember me saying last year about the dreadful time my parents were having. Dad had endocarditis, which put him in hospital for a couple of months (after being ill for a few months, but just thinking he was tired because mum had had a hip replacement and he'd been looking after her). He should've gone to have a leaky heart valve replaced, but while he was in hospital they discovered he had cancer and that needed to be addressed straight away with surgery. Poor dad has been waiting over a year now to have his heart operation and meanwhile my poor mum has had appendicitis last summer and is presently in hospital having had 3 hernias repaired. Goodness me! I ring dad every evening to see how his managing, but it's so hard for them having so much illness to contend with while also waiting for the call for heart surgery, I do wish we lived closer.

Anyway, how about this heat, it's getting quite smothering, we just aren't used to it in this country and I don't know anyone who is enjoying it anymore. The poor garden has suffered and chores around the house have been prioritised to what needs to be done and what can wait until it's cooler. Still time for a bit of felting, can you guess what it is

Nice and firm, ready for some legs and a bit of colour

At this point, Imogen thought it was going to be a panda bear

Some face markings

A pair of little ears

A little badger

I did enjoy making him, haven't done any felting for a bit and forgot quite how relaxing it is.

Take care
xxx

  1. Awww, it's fabulous. You're so clever with your felting. I still haven't given it a go, I really must. I'm sorry to hear that things are still bad with your parents, it's really hard when both of them are unwell, I know myself from experience, and it's hard too when they don't live close by. I do hope things start to improve for them soon.

  2. Wow, that's beautiful, you are clever. Needle felting is on my list of things to try. It's heartbreaking when your parents are suffering and you do not live close enough. This heat is far too much for me.

    1. It is hard to see one’s parents growing older and with health problems, this heat certainly doesn’t help either x

  4. Soooo very cute!!! Just precious...

"Poor dad has been waiting over a year now to have his heart operation..."

Why has your father had to wait for his heart operation??? That is terrible. Is it because of Socialized Medicine?

Here, one would not wait. You would be quickly in hospital. But, we do not have Socialized Medicine. Thankfully...

    1. We have the nhs in the uk, very lucky as it’s free, but it can lead to long waiting lists and things have got much harder the last decade or so, it’s badly underfunded x

I'm so sorry to read that things are still not good health wise with your parents, and it can't be easy when they don't live near to you. I do hope things start to improve for them very soon. Sending my good wishes.

  8. I'm so sorry your parents are not well. They seem to have had more than their share of health problems.
Your felted Badger is so awesome. I have no idea how felting is done but the results are pretty amazing.

    1. Thank you. Felting is done by repeating stabbing the wool with a small barbed needle which causes the fibres to intertwine and ‘felt’ x

  9. Sorry that your parents are not well, it's a worry for you.
I've been getting up early to get any housework done, if I left it until the afternoon I don't think I would have the motivation in this heat. I have the aircon on all morning at work so it's lovely, but as you say no good for trying to get anything done, although i am hoping it holds out for while we are on holiday in just over a weeks time.
Love the cute little badger, i too thought it was going to be a panda :-)

    1. I wish we had air con in the house, it’s just not worth it in this country though, this heat is quite unusual x

  10. Sorry to hear of all your parents health problems and the long wait for your dad's heart operation!! What an ordeal they have been through.
It seems like this summer is a hot one for lots of people. Our summer has been lovely here in western Maryland, temps in the 70's or low 80's with sun and rain showers every so often to give the plants a drink.

  15. Your badger is adorable. I'm sorry to hear about the stress with your parents. When my mom was dying, it was so difficult. It's hard to see them suffer and decline. My prayers are with you.

  16. Hi,
    I am sending hugs.
I love your badger. Do you have badgers in your area? Wisconsin is the Badger State and I have been blessed to see three in the wild. :-)
