Settling in for Autumn

Summer feels a long while ago (I think it may have been a couple of weeks in June) and it's definitely feeling a bit more chilly. I for one am welcoming it with open arms, as much as I couldn't wait for Spring earlier in the year, I now feel ready to fully embrace the autumn and all that comes with it.

The school term has started and we have all slipped easily into the routine that has been part of my life for the last 25 years (that's what happens when you have a large age gap between your children). I started off with the changes on the mantelpiece.

I've put our Halloween globes out, I like to display them from September otherwise it feels like they're only around for such a short time. The dancing skeletons are musical and I do think they're rather beautiful.

The 3 little houses each have a tea light in and give a lovely glow in the evenings as the nights draw in.

Settling down in the evening to watch a bit of TV (I do like the dramas that BBC and ITV show, the second series of Doctor Foster is one of my favourites right now), it's good to have something in my hands to keep me busy. I've started crocheting a jumper for Imogen, just a bit of rib so far.

I love the colour, its a marble chunky from James C. Brett. I picked it upon Hobbycraft as it was a special offer (all the different shades were on offer). Just the right sort of colour to be using in Autumn!

While I settle in to my crochet, Mitzi was busy settling into my craft storage, it looks like she was making a nest to keep warm through Autumn too.

Take care

  2. I love your Autumn decorations! It's definitely feeling like Autumn here too. As I was out for my walk this morning I saw several squirrels and chipmunks getting ready for winter. There were old branches and things falling from the trees and there was a chilly nip in the air.

Love the wool! I have to pick up my knitting again. I didn't take it with me so need to get back into the swing of things again.

  3. Your Autumn display looks lovely. The days have become dark and damp lately but it's still not very cold here at the moment.
It's so good to cosy in, draw the curtains and light some candles in an evening isn't it? And it's a good excuse (if ever one was needed) to get on with some crafting.
The start of the school year is a welcome return to routine at this time of year. X

  4. Like you I love Spring and Autumn the best. I used to love Summer when I was younger and couldn't wait to get on the beach but now I hate it.
What a good idea to display the halloween things early. Bet those little houses look lovely lit up.

  5. Your Autumn decorating looks great Cheryl! It is funny how easily we slip back into routines. After working part time for almost a year Chuck went back to full time and we just slipped right back.
We are having a warm week here but it is to cool down next week.
    Love the photo of Mitzi!
    Take care!

It is definitely cooler now isn't it, we even put our heating on last night!

I do like the colour of the wool you are using, and such a sweet photograph of Mitzi.

I really like your little houses.
While watching TV I too like to keep my hands busy.
I'll have to see if Doctor Foster is on Netflix.

  10. Autumn's definitely arrived, it's so cold and the heating's on already. I love your snow globes, they certainly do deserve to be displayed for longer than just the Halloween season. Awww, look at Mitzi's beautiful little face, she knows it's time to hunker down.

  11. LOVE your Autumn decorations :) Your display made me go in search of mine but I think hubby put them up the loft after I took them down last year, so i will have to wait until he is home at the weekend to get them down for me.
I made a blanket for my mum in the Marble Chunky, it works up lovely. There have been a couple of good series on TV lately, I will watch last nights Dr Foster on catch-up tonight while i'm working on Oliver's scarf :-)

  14. Hello Cheryl, Your autumnal mantelpiece looks gorgeous. I also adore the colour of your wool ... so rich & beautiful. We are just going into spring here but are still having real wintery temperatures & sooo much rain. We had to get more firewood in yesterday as September is looking like being very wintery still.

  21. Making little changes like this around the home really helps to reflect the changing seasons. I've got the autumnal themed ones out now, it won't be long until they go away and the Halloween bits take their place!
