I can't believe we're so far through the summer holidays already they always seem to go by in a flash and this year has been no exception. I think the holidays have felt shorter than usual because of waiting for little Zachary to be born at the beginning, then illness (which I found very frustrating as it seemed to linger) and Imogen is older now and makes lots of plans with friends too.
It's already feeling a bit autumnal, the nights are slowly drawing in, there's been a chill in the air and summer seems to have left us early. It feels that the best of summer this year was back in May and June, it was an early summer and I'm so glad that we made the most of the garden back then, spending lots of time outside.
I've been baking some of my son Adam's favourite treats. I always make them 2 batches as Holly is a vegetarian and Adam loves his meat. Ham and cheese (just cheese for Holly) pastry bites, so simple to make and tasty to eat, whenever I make some for Adam I always make some for Andy too.
I started with some puff pastry and covered it with cheese (grated cheese goes further) and a nice smoked ham. Lots of seasoning, some oregano and garlic salt.
Roll it up, carefully so you don't lose the filling, lengthways so it makes a long roll. With a sharp knife, slice every couple of inches.
Pop in a lightly greased baking tray and brush with a little egg before sprinkling with poppy seeds.
They only take about 15 minutes (or cook until a lovely golden brown), oozing cheese, delicious.
They are so popular with Adam and Holly that I was sent a video when I was ill with Zack (and the help of daddy's finger on his chin) asking me to bring some to them, he even specifies, meat and veggie ones please! Took me a while to figure out how to upload this, but thrilled I managed it, you will have to turn the volume high though.
Here are some pictures of my gorgeous boys taken yesterday
I think this may be my favourite as little Zack here is the image of his father as a baby, the only difference being hair colour and size (Adam was a tiny little thing with dark hair). It makes me want to put my finger into the photo and stroke his little cheek... I am totally besotted!
Take care

Babies are such fun, aren't they!
ReplyDeleteLoved your recipe, and will try it when I'm back to cooking again.
I forgot how much they sleep, so gorgeous though. Hope you're feeling better soon x
DeleteHello Cheryl, Yummy that baking looks delicious, I shall definately give that recipe a try. Thanks for sharing it. Also thanks for the lovely comment you left me over on my blog. Your new grandson sure is gorgeous !!
ReplyDeleteThank you Julie. I like being able to whip a snack up quickly x
DeleteI'm up an hour early for work. It was dark and foggy. Even a dew on the grass. Yes a dew!
ReplyDeleteIt must be so confusing for the poor animals x
DeleteAwww, he's so gorgeous. It's a long time since we had a baby in the family, Eleanor was the last one and she's nineteen now. The pastry bites look delicious, I think I'll give them a go.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jo, it had been a while for us too. Imogen is 15 and was the last baby here x
DeleteZachery is beautiful! I hope you are getting loads of cuddles with him.
ReplyDeleteI like the recipe, I used to do something similar for the girls when they were at school but with sausage or bacon, they used to love to take them for breakfast.
Definitely a change in the air here too, i was saying at the weekend that I don't think the tubs and basket plants will last much longer, I do love Autumn mornings and nights though so i'm not too bothered by it, at least we are still getting some sunny days.
I find myself just gazing at him, he has stolen my heart. Bacon and sausage rolls sound tasty, especially as the weathers changing. x
DeleteI love quick and easy pastry snacks, yours look scrumptious.
ReplyDeleteYour grandson is such a gorgeous baby, xx
Thank you I love him so much already x
DeleteWhat a fabulous post.
ReplyDeleteYour recipe idea looks great ...
My favourites are the photo's and video of your grandson.
He is just adorable and I can quite understand wanting to give him big hugs and cuddles ... I can remember touching photo's of our grandchildren and just loving and admiring them, I think it's something grand-parents do. I've even been known to talk to the photo's - how daft is that!!!
We love our children, we love our grand-children and time with them is so precious.
Enjoy every moment Cheryl
My good wishes
All the best Jan
