Much Sadness

Haven't blogged for ages, but so much seems to have happened here. Certainly a summer we'll never forget, though for all the wrong reasons.

We lost our sweet little Bonbon (picture here with her mum) to Hydrocephalus, she was only 11 weeks old. Her sister died from a pancreatic tumour the day before - no connection.

and our beautiful, handsome boy Bruce died

Not everyone understands how truly devastating it can be to lose a much loved family pet, he was a member of our family and has left behind a gaping hole. We will never forget him - love you Bruce xx

  1. So sorry Cheryl to read your sad news. Losing a pet is like losing any other family member or friend, let alone losing three of them. I hope that you are able to remember the good times that you had with your lovely dogs and that things will start to look a little cheerier soon.

  13. So sorry Cheryl. My dog is my companion on all my adverntures here in St Ives. She is an older lady now, but still trots by my side. She is family, so I can empathise with how your family must be feeling at this time.

    Much love

  14. Cheryl I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I think loosing a pet is such a difficult thing to deal with as people just see it as a pet, but really it is another person in your family. I am thinking of you and sending you a big hug. Best wishes xoxo

  17. Oh Cheryl, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss - to lose one pet is devastating but three so close together - just awful. It really does leave a hole in the family. I hope you are all coping ok and that things are becoming easier. x

  18. Well I have tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat. I know how you feel. We lost our Winston dog last year at this time. And I have to tell you I complained the most about that dog than any other dog I've ever had, and I miss him the most. His ornery-ness which caused me a lot of grief, is what I miss! Go to my post in October of 2012 titled Winston. Read the poem that John Gray posted by Rudyard Kipling. It is healing...as much as a poem can be. And so true. When we get a furry friend, we know, almost as surely as the day we get it and fall in love, we will someday have a broken heart. Thinking of you and so sorry for your losses.

    I have been there
    I have been bereft too
    awful awful

I have emailed you this poem
it wont help your pain, but it does describe it
    The Power of the Dog
    by
    Rudyard Kipling

There is sorrow enough in the natural way
    From men and women to fill our day;
And when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.

Buy a pup and your money will buy
    Love unflinching that cannot lie--
    Perfect passsion and worship fed
By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head.
    Nevertheless it is hardly fair
To risk your heart to a dog to tear.

When the fourteen years which Nature permits
Are closing in asthma, or tumour, or fits,
And the vet's unspoken prescription runs
To lethal chambers or loaded guns,
Then you will find--it's your own affair--
But ... you've given your heart to a dog to tear.

When the body that lived at your single will,
With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!)
When the spirit that answered your every mood
    Is gone--wherever it goes--for good,
You will discover how much you care,
And will give your heart to a dog to tear.

We've sorrow enough in the natural way,
When it comes to burying Christian clay.
Our loves are not given, but only lent,
At compound interest of cent per cent.
Though it is not always the case, I believe,
That the longer we've kept 'em, the more do we grieve:
For, when debts are payable, right or wrong,
A short-term loan is as bad as a long--
So why in--Heaven (before we are there)
Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?
