Yes, I finally went back to my very first piece of crochet (Granny Squares), the ends were sewn in and I made a back for it, crocheted it together and made a cushion cover.
I'm pleased with it, in fact I think the colours look so bright and pretty in a large square like this, that I've decided that I prefer this side as the front.
I used some pretty ribbons to do the opening up (in a house with pets, you need to be able to wash the covers).
I think someone may be feeling the need for some attention (must be something to do with all this puppy palaver). My crochet hook was lying next to me one minute... then it was STOLEN...
I ended up having to bribe with monkey nuts to get it back. Maybe she wants me to teach her... or maybe she just likes bright colours :)
Before I scoot off I must share my wonderful news. Imogen had braces fitted a few weeks ago. There was much unhappiness and a couple of return visits to have them tweaked and bits snipped off, tears as she told us how she would rather have crooked teeth than a brace, it was very sore at first. One of Imogen's front top teeth had grown through at a right angle... and is now perfectly straight already! She has such a beautiful smile crooked teeth or not, but I know she is thrilled. Braces will have to stay on for a while yet, but what quick results!
Take care

I would love to be able to make a cushion like that! In those exact colours, my favourites. : ) Imogen will be glad she kept her braces on when she has grown up and has a perfect smile.
ReplyDeleteThank you, it's nice to see the cheery colours as it's so dull outside :)
DeleteHi Cheryl
ReplyDeleteYou just can't beat Granny squares they are so versatile as you can do so much with them,no ends of options. Both sides look lovely and you can swop them around. Ms or Mr Parrot is decidedly cheeky perhaps he knew you'd give him nuts to get the hook back LOL!
ohhh braces are a burden but wonderful when she will not have to wear them anymore. My poor niece was always hiding her smile....I saw an oldish teenager with braces and she had sparkly bits fixed to them so every-time she smiled they shone!!!
keep well
Amanda :-)
Parrot is Phoebe, a Ms :) Imo was able to choose the colour braces she wanted, a pretty pale pink :)
DeleteYour pillow turned out beautifully! Nice job. How funny that your bird got the hook! I've had birds and I can totally imagine them doing that too. Good news about Imogen's tooth!
ReplyDeleteThank you, yes Phoebe is fond of nice bright colours, she likes pens too :)
ReplyDeleteYour cushions is lovely and I like both sides. Poor Imogen. I've had two daughters go through the braces treatment and I know just how sore their mouths can get with the initial treatment and as they go back for adjustments periodically. She will love the end result though and at the end of her treatment she will be very glad she persevered through the pain and discomfort.

Well I think your bird might have hidden talents - with a little bit of instruction he'll soon be running off a few granny squares! Jane x
ReplyDeleteBraces are difficult, but SO very worth it, as she will learn when they come off. The first few days are painful though. I remember.
ReplyDeletePhoebe is wonderful. What a sweetheart. You have to pay attention to her when she 'steals' stuff. She's figured out how to make people notice her and tell her how beautiful she is. lol.
I love the pillow-both sides are pretty. The colors are so Spring-like.
ReplyDeleteTell Imogen she will mot be sorry. The braces will be worth it. I had them, so I know.
Your parrot is funny! And it looks like she nabbed one of those kind of crochet hooks thar I just bought. Nice! She has good taste!

Your cushion is really pretty. Glad to hear that the braces are doing everything they should. They are always a great trauma at first and really uncomfortable. Jx
ReplyDeleteOoh how lovely is your rainbow cushion....And how clever is Phoebe...You share your lovely home and heart with some wonderfull pets, Cheryl....I am leaving you with a smile :) this morning as always...Love Maria x
ReplyDeletePhoebe is obviously taking after you! :) x
ReplyDeleteThat cushion turned out so well! I think it's lovely to have your first crochet project on display for all to see. x
ReplyDeleteYour cushion looks fabulous. Well done. Both my girls had braces so "been there, done that" as the saying goes. Imogen might not need to wear hers for long if they're working quickly. Fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteYour cushion is so pretty, I bet you're so pleased that you got it finished off now. I think Phoebe must like it if she's wanting to have a go at it herself. Glad to hear that Imogen's braces are working as they should. They can be really painful at first, but it will all be worth it in the end.
ReplyDeleteYour cushion is perfect for spring. How funny that your bird stole the hook! Our dog has gotten into my things before, and they are are usually ruined before I find out. Good luck to Imogen with the braces. Both my kids had them. Definitely worth it in the end.
ReplyDeleteWell done on the cushion, love the springtime colours! Your bird obviously wants to get in on the action! Take care. Chel x
ReplyDeleteTell Phoebe to sew or crochet in the ends as she goes along. It then only seems a short time to be doing it rather than a great marathon at the end of a project! Lovely cushion. Let's hope the spring like colours herald spring like weather. Thank you for your comment on my blog.
ReplyDeleteLove from Mum

Your pillow is lovely! I am glad Imogen is sticking with it. The time will pass quickly and the results will be so worth it. What a cute bird. :)
ReplyDeleteThis post has made me chuckle! Not the bit about the dentist though, I'm sure she will get used to them, bless her. Love your cushions, such pretty colours! Thanks for entering my giveaway!! Karen :)
ReplyDeleteMaybe she's thinking you should crochet something for her!
ReplyDeleteTell Imogen to persevere, she won't regret it ... my niece gave up on hers and now very much wishes she hadn't.
Great cushion. Naughty birdie. KP may have to have a brace in a few years time according to the dentist - she still has so many baby teeth. The adult teeth are growing through at all angles!
